Finally something new and fresh!

Labels: , , ,

Another new week, another Monday and a new day to get fired up!
Plans this week include continuing to keep getting the word out about the CPSIA law.

First thing is to ship samples to be tested with XRF gun for lead. This will be a huge relief to have taken care of. Next follow up for Spring immediate shipments. Cut for my seamstress. I'm happy that I have work for her. Not much, but at least something. Then time to get sewing customs. Lots of little details to do this week and I plan to get through the entire list!

I've been getting e-mails from across the country that picked up my story on CNBC news. My interview with the local station apparently has made the rounds.

CPSIA Legislation

While Congress was busy voting on bailouts, they appeared to be unaware that the new CPSIA law they passed requiring third-party lead testing and certification that will be required for all products intended for children under 12 years and takes effect Feb. 10, and will be the final blow that cripples manufacturers and retail.
This includes such things as clothing, bedding, strollers, car seats.
While I applaud the CSPC for providing greater protection for our children, the process and implementation of the rules and regulations will be putting more of us out of business at a time the economy can least weather it.

If this law is not changed, retailers will be required to pull every single item of toys, clothing, bedding, car seats, etc. from the shelves by Feb. 10.
Where will all this merchandise go?
The landfills -- because it will be illegal to do anything else with it. A huge penalty and jail time for offenders. Handcrafted items are included.
Did you enjoy shopping at local craft fairs for gifts this year for your children and grandchildren? This law will put all those artisans out of business. We will be primarily left with imports from China. Yes, quite ironic isn't it?

I hope that the CPSIA will get their act together and realize how this law will devastate an already wobbly economy.
